SRINAGAR, July 3: Legal Metrology Department has booked three Gujarat-based tile factories for violating Packaged Commodities Laws.
Field executives of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Deputy Controller (Enforcement) Kashmir during market checking booked the factories which include Kajaria Ceramics Ltd, Slogan Ceramic, Landmark Tiles Pvt. Ltd., an official statement of the department said.
“These three firms have supplied the wall-tiles, floor-tiles etc to the distributors of the Valley which are without the mandatory declarations of MRP, thickness, e-mail address, customer care number,” the statement said.
Under Consumer Protection Act, 1987, it is the right of the consumer to know about the price, quantity, quality, durability of the product so that he may make a rational choice while purchasing the goods, product.
In absence of price, size and thickness of tiles, the consumer interests are exploited, it said.
“The legal notices were served to the management of the firms. One firm namely Kajaria Ceramics Ltd confessed the shortcoming and a penal sum of Rs 25000 was slapped on the management.”
