3-day national level painting camp on ‘Tribal Life and Culture’ commences

Jammu, Jan 18: A 3-day national level painting camp on ‘Tribal Life and Culture of Jammu and Kashmir’  was inaugurated at Kala-Kendra,   in presence of galaxy of artists, writer and intellectuals, here this afternoon.
The event was  jointly organised by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation  and District Administration Udhampur under Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur was chief guest on the occasion while as internationally renowned artists  Rajindera Tikoo and Dr. Javaid Rahi,   Secretary Tribal Foundation were in the presidium.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Shahid Iqbal said that this is a unique camp in many ways. He said  the nomadic life and  culture of different ST groups of state   will get highlighted and a  boost through the  medium  of  this camp.
He said  that art and culture is an important  component of  our identity which makes  the ethnicities  more vibrant and dominant. He said the Tribal Foundation and District Administration  is holding this event  with the help of Department of Tribal Affairs. He said that more imitative are  in offing to  hold such gathering of artists in future which will ultimately help us in binding the society together. He extended help for opening of a common strong room for art works.
Earlier, Dr. Javaid Rahi said that the main objective  of this  camp was to attract the artists fraternity of India towards the vivid  tribal and nomadic culture of  State mainly to get them nearer   to  colourful culture of Gujjars , Bakerwals and other tribes. He said around 25 artists were invited to participate in the camp to paint life and culture of Tribes of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Lalit Gupta , renowned Art critic said that this is a rare initiative  wherein tribal and nomadic culture of Gujjars, Bakerwals, Changpas , Gaddis beside other tribes  will be decorated, preserved  and documented  through the medium of art . He hoped that Government may take such initiative in future too  to organise such events.
Among others the artists who are participating in the camp includes  R P Singh,Akram Khan, Satpal Deol, Rohit Verma, rakesh Kumar, Sahil Ohri, Narinder Bhagat, Anjli Bharti, Munir Chowdhary,  Mahva Gupta, Kanchal Verma, Sakhsi Kullar Gupta.
