JAMMU, July 6: Samooh Theatre with the support of Senior Citizen Support Service Club, Jammu, is organising 3- day first ever Dogri Theatre Festival from tomorrow.
In this three- day Festival, a total six Dogri plays will be staged by the various prominent Theatre groups of the Jammu region . Rajnesh Gupta, noted theatre playwright and director is the coordinator of the festival.
During the festival, the plays including “Galat Vyakaran” “Bawa Jittmal” “Pension”, “A Ghar Mera Nahi”, “Banda Bolda Ai” and “Sas Puran” shall be staged at 4.30.p.m at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu and entry has been kept free for all, said Dr Kasturi Lal, Chairman of SCSSC, while informing about the programme of festival.
“This Theatre Festival is being organised for the promotion and development of Dogri language and the theatre art besides, providing a platform to the local talent including junior and the senior theatre artists of the Jammu,” he added.
Even as Dogri language had been included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution in 2003 and now it has been given the status of one of the official languages of J&K, still no efforts are being made for the recruitment of the teachers in the schools especially at primary level by the Govt. Our children are deprived of learning Dogri, Dogra history and cultural heritage as well,” said Dr Sudhir Mahajan, a veteran theatre director and the playwright of Jammu and Kashmir.
