3 cops among 7 killed, 22 injured in accidents

JAMMU, June 8: Three security men among seven persons were killed  and at least 22 others injured in four separate road accidents in Ramban, Rajouri and Udhampur districts today.
Reports from Ramban said that three security personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and a cook (civil) were killed, when the gypsy escorting former Union Minister and Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jammu West, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta rolled down into a deep nallah in Digdol area of district Ramban late last night.
Reports said the Police Gypsy bearing registration number JK01J-7150 of  Security Wing of JKP, escorting Prof Gupta was on way to Srinagar from Jammu. The vehicle landed into nearly 400 feet deep nallah near Digdol area of district Ramban due to negligence of the driver.
Police Control Room (PCR) Jammu informed Police Station Ramban that a Gypsy of the Security Wing escorting the MLA went missing last night in the area between Digdol and Khooni Nallah.
On getting information, the police team from Ramban  headed by SSP Ramban Javed Iqbal Mattoo along with SSP Traffic Dr Haseeb Mughal and ASP Ramban Arun Gupta started search operation for the missing Gypsy and found a body floating in a nallah near Digdol. When searched thoroughly, the vehicle was also found submerged into the nallah.
Police team along with army personnel and Quick Rescue Team (QRT) volunteers started rescue operation and recovered bodies of all three police personnel and the cook this evening.
The deceased have been identified as Constable Jarnail Singh, Constable Narinder Singh, Constable driver Jeet Raj and cook Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Mahanpur, in district Kathua. Their bodies were shifted to district hospital, Ramban for postmortem.
At least 10 passengers were injured, when the mini-bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Sangrur Chowk, at Udhampur today.  The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK14B-7183 was on its way to Udhampur from Sangrur. The driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into gorge.
On getting information, police team from Udhampur Police Station led by SHO Mahesh Sharma  rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. The locals also joined.    All the injured were rushed to district hospital Udhampur, where their condition was stated to be stable.
The injured have been identified as Roshan Lal (27), son of Radhay Krishan Sharma of Kawa, Shobha Rani, wife of Madhan Lal of Nansu, Shiv Ram (72), Son of Kirpa Ram Bhagat of Kawa, Mahima Devi (45), wife of Bindu Ram of Thanowa, Shanti Devi (75), wife of Mangat Ram of Dandyal, Aarti Devi (5), daughter of Sanjay Kumar of Battal Ballian, Arun Sharma (15), son of Romesh Chander of Badhole, Wazir Chand, son of Kirpa Ram of Kawa, Assa Nand, son of Lali Ram of Vishal Jattrian and Rashid (15), son of Yousaf resident of  Thanowa. The police has taken cognizance.
Another report from Rajouri said that two members of  `Mata Jagaran/ Jagrata’ party were killed and two others seriously injured when their Indica car bearing registration No. JK02AF/5731, skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near a bridge at Lamberi in Nowshera early today. The mishap took place at around 4.30 am when the four members of ‘Mata Jagaran’ Party were on their way to Nowshera from Sunderbani. After completion of their over- night  devotional  songs (Jagrata) programme at Sunderbani, they left for Nowshera for another programme scheduled to be held tonight.
It is believed that driver being under the influence of  sleep took a nap and the car landed into a deep gorge at Lamberi  on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway, killing the two on the spot and causing serious injuries to the two others.  The police party from Lamberi Police Post, led by SI Naresh Sharma rushed to the spot and they shifted the injured and the dead bodies to Sunderbani hospital.
The seriously injured Sudhanshu Sharma (18), son of Vasudev, resident of Ban Talab, Jammu  and Raja (13), son of Ram Kumar, resident of Pamposh Colony, Janipur were rushed to Govt Medical College Hospital Jammu.
The deceased were identified as Ronika Rajput (22), daughter of Jung Bahadur, resident of Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu and Rohit Kumar (25), son of Mahesh Chander, resident of Janipur, Jammu. The police after performing legal formalities and conducting postmortem at Sunderbani hospital, handed over the bodies to their respective families for last rites.
Meanwhile, nine persons were injured when a Tavera vehicle over turned on the road at Narian in Nowshera during early hours today. The mishap took place when the vehicle No. JK02AC/ 4745,  carrying passengers was on way to Rajouri from Jammu. As it reached near Narian, after some mechanical failure the vehicle overturned on the road. The injured  were removed to hospital by the jawans from a nearby Army camp and some locals. Later, police also reached. All the injured were removed to Nowshera hospital.
The injured were identified as Babu Ram, son of Balak Ram, Ram Krishan, son of Amar Nath, Sureshta Devi and her husband Pritam Dass, residents of Kallar in Rajouri, Sonia, wife of Anil Kumar of  Narian, Chaman Lal, son of Kulli Ram, resident of  Chawani, Amrik Singh, son of Rasal Singh of  Nowshera, Sushil Kumar  and Vijay Kumar from Kallar in Rajouri. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
A youth was killed and the pillion rider injured when the motorcycle they were riding, slipped near Shakuntla Crossing on BC Road here today.
Police said two youth received injuries, when their bike No. JK02AB/ 2684, slipped near  Shakuntla last night.
The duo was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where Abhishek Sharma (22), son of Brij Mohan Sharma of  Kalli Janni succumbed to injuries early today.
The injured identified as Abhijeet (18), son of Manoj Kumar of Jain Bazaar, was responding to the treatment.
The body of the deceased was handed over to the family for last rites after completing legal formalities by police.
A case in this regard has been registered at Rehari Police Post.
