Srinagar, Oct 28: The Government today informed the Assembly that it has issued over 3.3 lakh certificates under various social and economic categories during the past two years.
In a written reply to a question by MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, the Government said the highest number of certificates were issued in Jammu district, followed by Udhampur, Kathua, and Rajouri.
During the two-year period, a total of 70,268 Scheduled Caste (SC), 60,243 Scheduled Tribe (ST), 76,664 Other Backward Class (OBC), 21,386 Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 47,399 Resident of Backward Area (RBA), and 38,280 Actual Line of Control (ALC) certificates were issued across the Union Territory.
The Government added that these certificates were distributed across all districts to ensure that eligible individuals avail benefits under various welfare schemes.
Reacting to this, Parra accused the administration of perpetuating regional imbalance in the issuance of social category certificates across Jammu and Kashmir, citing official data presented in the Legislative Assembly.
Parra said the figures released by the Revenue Department reveal a “deep regional divide,” showing Jammu far ahead of Kashmir in the distribution of SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and ALC certificates over the past two years.
In a post on X, Parra wrote, “Data shared by the Revenue Department reveals a sharp regional divide in certificate issuance over the last two years,” highlighting what he termed as a “serious breach of fairness, equality, and administrative impartiality.”
