UDHAMPUR, May 4: Police foiled three attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued 26 animals from the clutches of four bovine smugglers, who were also arrested.
According to the police report, a truck bearing registration number JK22-9282, coming from Jammu towards Srinagar, was intercepted by the police team. The driver identified as Fayaz Ahmed Khan Gojar son of Abdul Rashid, failed to produce valid permission for transporting the 10 bovine animals found tied cruelly in the vehicle.
Police rescued the animals and arrested the driver. A case FIR No. 60/2025 under Section 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act was registered in this connection at PS Rehambal.
Another truck, bearing registration number JK20A-7240 and coming from Jammu, was stopped at the same naka point. Driver namely Mohd Rafiq son of Zakir Hussain of Thalwal, Mandal, was found transporting 11 bovine animals in similar inhumane conditions without any valid documentation. Police arrested the driver and registered case FIR No. 61/2025 under Section 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act at PS Rehambal.
In Panchari, Police rescued five bovines which were being smuggled on foot by accused persons namely Rafiq Mohd and Sharif Mohd, both sons of Siraj Din and resident of Lali, Moungari, District Udhampur. The accused were arrested on the spot. In this regard, case FIR number 17/2025 under relevant sections has been registered at PS Panchari.
