250 bovine animals rescued

RAJOURI, Nov 14: In one of the major bovine animals seizures, Rajouri and Poonch Police during the wee hours today seized 43 vehicles and rescued over 250 bovines at three different places in twin border districts which were being smuggled to Kashmir Valley.
However some smugglers giving slip to the police managed to flee along with bovines.
According to reports, the Rajouri Police on getting information about the bovine smuggling in the area had laid a naka at Sharda Chowk in Thanamandi late last night. The smugglers and the drivers of the vehicles carrying bovines after seeing the naka pelted stones on police which was being assisted by CRPF Jawans also to foil the bid of bovine smugglers. Later the more reinforcement led by SDPO Thanamandi Majib-ur-Rehman rushed to the spot and stopped the vehicles. However, many of them taking the advantage of darkness and stone pelting managed to flee from there while police seized 13 vehicles and arrested over a dozen smugglers.
Later SDPO informed Poonch Police and they too laid nakas at two places including Sailan, Poonch and Behramgala where 30 Tata Sumos carrying the bovine animals were seized and over 200 animals were rescued by the Police.
The Police also launched patrolling on Rajouri Poonch Highway to stop the vehicles carrying bovines, reports said, adding at various places the smugglers seeing police abandoned their vehicles along with bovines and fled. However the police chased them and managed to arrest some of them while for nabbing others a manhunt has been launched in the two districts.
Police said this is one of the major seizures of bovine animals in the area.
The vehicles seized at Thanamandi included JK 02 AE -2957, JK11- 7484, JK 11 -A 1880, JK11-A 0290, JK 11-A 9320, JK 11-A, 3193, JK11-A 3486, JK02 AN 1646, JK 11, 6203, JK 11 -9738 and JK 2 V-3087. The numbers of two vehicles are yet to be ascertained.
The smugglers arrested included Mohammed Sajjad,  son of Mohammed Zubir of Ganbir Mugla, Tariq Ahmed S/o Mohamed Bashir of Behrot, Manzoor Ahmed, S/o Ghulam Nabi of Rajdhani, Maqsood Ahmed, son of Mohammed Azam of Pangai, Faqir Ahmed S/o Mohamed Younis of Ganbir Mugla, Aftab Ahmed S/o Nazir Hussain of Darhal, Sheraz Ahmed S/o Abdul Gani of Khabla, Mohammed Aslam S/o Mohammed Shafi of Dwandara Thanamandi, Mohammed Jamil S/o Alam Din of Mehjoor, Mohammed Bashir S/o Manir Hussain of Behrot, Mohammed Bashir S/o Abdul Majid of Rajdhani, Shehraz Iqbal S/o Mohammed Iqbal of Khabla.
SDPO was accompanied by SHO Thanamandi Zakir Mirza also during the raid.
Reports said soon after getting the information the nakas were laid at Sailan and Behram-gala by Behram Gala and Surankote Police respectively who also seized 30 Tata mobile and rescued over 200 animals. However the names and numbers of the vehicles were not available as the operation continued later upto evening from early morning.
