About 25% voting in 4th phase in 18 assembly segments in J&K

SRINAGAR :  Moderate to brisk polling has been recorded during the first four hours in 18 assembly constituencies, spread over Srinagar, Anantnag and Shopian in Kashmir valley and Samaba in Jammu region in the fourth phase of five phased elections in the state.    An official spokesman said 24.58 per cent voting has been recorded during the first four hours in these constituencies.    To ensure free, fair and peaceful polling, unprecedented security arrangements had been made in view of the boycott call given by the separatists and threat perception.    Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was among the first to cast his vote at a polling station set up in a missionary school at Sonawar, from where he is seeking mandate this time. An official spokesman said here this afternoon that Samba recorded highest 37.85 per cent votes followed by Shangus 36.19 per cent, Doru 35.71 per cent, Pahalgam 35.39 per cent, Kokernag 34.88 per cent, Bijbehara 32.25 per cent, Vijaypur 31.09 per cent, Shopian 25.39 per cent, Sonawar, from where Chief minister is seeking mandate 23.52 per cent, Wachi 22.64 per cent, Anantnag 21.26 per cent, Hazratbal 16.60 per cent, Khanyar 16.08 per cent, Amira Kadal 15.12 per cent, Zadigal 14.73 per cent, Batmaloo 13.58 per cent, Idgah 13.36 per cent and lowest Habba Kadal 10.58 per cent. In 2008 Habba Kadal constituency, which has more than 16000 Kashmiri pandit votes, recorded 11.62 per cent while during the past four hours the voter turnout was 10.58 per cent.
