Srinagar, Apr 9: Twenty four students of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar today tested positive for the COVID-19 after a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was conducted at the Institute.
In a letter to the Head of the Department, Social and Preventive Medicine GMC Srinagar, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Hazrabal has informed that 24 students out of 47 tested positive for COVID-19 during RAT today.
“It is requested to kindly take up the matter with the concerned authorities for necessary declaration of MCZ (Micro Containment Zone),” read the letter.
The officials told Excelsior that the students are from different parts of the country who had some time ago returned to the campus after visiting their families. The officials said that the students did not have any recent travel history though.
“Normal COVID protocol will follow now, which includes mass testing as well; those infected have been isolated,” the officials said, adding the need for RAT arose after some of the students complained of sore throat and other COVID related symptoms.
