CHANDIGARH, July 13 : The Haryana government has ordered a 24-hour suspension of internet services and bulk SMS in Nuh district, Mewat, in anticipation of tomorrow’s Brajmandal Yatra.
The restrictions will take effect from 9 PM on July 13 until 9 PM on July 14. However, essential mobile notifications-such as banking alerts and mobile recharge SMS-will continue uninterrupted.
According to Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary of Home Affairs, the decision aims to maintain public order by curbing the spread of rumours and misinformation during the religious procession.
Security has been significantly ramped up: Chief Minister Nayab Saini has directed the closure of meat shops and factories along the Yatra route, while approximately 2,500 police personnel, including paramilitary units, have been deployed. Additional checkpoints and vigilance measures have also been put in place.
The government’s preventive response is rooted in last year’s tragic events. During the 2023 Brajmandal Yatra, communal violence erupted in Nuh, claiming several lives and triggering widespread unrest.
