JAMMU, Aug 23: The 22nd death anniversary of Pt. Prem Nath Shastri, a scholar of Shastras and doyen of Kashmiri Hindu culture, was observed today.
In this connection, a Maha Yagya was solemnised at Tirath Raj Martand in Mattan, Anantnag today. The function was organised by Pt. Prem Nath Shastri Sanaskritik Shodh Sansthan and Jyotshi Karyalya Gole Gujral under the chairmanship of Pt Omkar Nath Shastri, chairman of the Sansthan.
On the occasion, Pt Omkar Nath Shastri highligted the contribution of Pt Prem Nath Shastri in preserving the tradition and culture of Kashmir and linking the community to its roots. He said Shastri Ji has introduced many reforms in the community so that people can practise the rituals any where in the world.
He said after the mass migration of community, Shastri Ji played a key role in unting it and stressed the need for change with changing times. The tributes were also paid to Shastri Ji by Ashok Sidha, president Tirarth Raj Mattan, who said that contributions of Shastri Ji in making the Vijeswar Jayantri a religious guide for community will be always remembered.
Councilor Mattan and BJP leader, Rakesh Koul and NC Minority Cell president, M K Yogi also paid tributes to Shastri Ji.
The function concluded with serving of prasad to devotees.
The welcome address was read by Vimarsh Jyotshi while vote of thanks was proposed by Avtar Krishan Jyotshi.
