JAMMU, Aug 26: The recruitment process for outstanding sportspersons in Jammu and Kashmir under SO 12 read with SO 412 has been at a complete standstill for the past 12 years, leaving hundreds of deserving athletes in prolonged uncertainty.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, the sportspersons expressed deep disappointment over the continued inaction by the Government. They highlighted that although the recruitment rules for non-gazetted posts were finalized and published in the official gazette on October 4, 2024, the merit list is yet to be released.
As per officials, 225 outstanding sportspersons who have earned recognition for their achievements are facing a dire situation due to this delay. The problem, according to sources, lies in the pending finalization of rules for just 10 gazetted posts, which has stalled the entire process. The necessary files continue to circulate within the Civil Secretariat, preventing further progress.
The sportspersons highlighted that the prolonged delay has caused not only professional uncertainty but also severe distress to athletes and their families. The provisional list for non-gazetted cadres was published on July 19, 2024. However, no appointments have been made since, leaving athletes helpless.
“This prolonged delay is deeply detrimental to our careers. We urge the Government to provide justice and end this uncertainty by publishing the merit list immediately,” the sportspersons appealed.
The fraternity has also warned that if the merit list and appointments are not issued before August 29, which is celebrated as Sports Day, all affected athletes under SO 12 will observe a “Black Day” with black flags.
