22 bovines rescued, 7 smugglers arrested

JAMMU, May 29: Foiling various attempts of bovine smuggling in twin districts of Udhampur and Reasi, Police rescued 22 bovine animals besides arresting seven smugglers.
Police team of Police Station Chenani, led by SHO Jaswinder Singh foiled one bovine smuggling bid and rescued six bovines, which were being smuggled in a vehicle (JK19A-1584) towards Kashmir valley without any valid permission.
Driver of the vehicle namely Talab son of Saif Ali of R S Pura Jammu and his associate namely Rizwan son of Mohd. Iqbal of Miran Sahib Jammu were arrested on the spot.
Another bovine smuggling attempt was foiled by a Police team of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO Raghuvir Singh, which intercepted a Tata Mobile (JK19-9130) at Jakhani Naka point.
Six bovines were rescued and driver of the vehicle, identified as Mohd Aiyaz, son of Mohd. Shafi of Khadi Kote, Ramban was arrested on the spot.
Meanwhile, 10 bovines were rescued in three separate operations across Reasi district.
Acting on specific intelligence, Police Station Pouni, led by SHO Sohan Singh Bandral, apprehended Raj Kumar, son of Ram Krishna of Thanpal (Loudhra), Tehsil Thakrakote, who was transporting two bovine animals on foot via a remote route from Dhanwa towards Srinagar through Thandapani. The alert police team reached the location swiftly, rescued the animals and arrested the accused.
In two separate operations, Police Station Katra teams intercepted two vehicles (bearing registration numbers JK20B-6452 and JK20B-5221) transporting eight bovines illegally. Both vehicles were seized, and four persons were arrested on the spot. The smugglers have been identified as Mohd Shabir, son of Mohd Rashid of Jadh, Mohd Altaf son of Mohd Munshi of Bhaga, Reasi; Kousar Ali son of Ishtiaq Ahmed of Gunn Kheral and Mohd Rashid son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Sailanjan, District Reasi.
These operations were led by SHO Katra, Khyatimaan Khajuria, under the supervision of SDPO Dr Bhishm Dubey.
