SRINAGAR, May 24: Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar today said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is addressing the sufferings of martyrs’ families on priority and has provided scholarships to 219 wards of police martyrs in the year 2015-16, in order to promote their education.
Mr. Rajendra was reviewing the welfare measures for the families of martyred cops at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. He said that welfare of jawans and officers is one of the top priorities of the Organization to infuse fresh energy and boost morale of the force. He said that various new welfare schemes have been introduced to benefit the families of martyrs.
DGP said that during the years of insurgency JKP has lost 964 precious lives of its fellows, who sacrificed themselves at the altar of their duty. 487 SPOs also contributed in maintaining peace and order, by offering their lives in different parts of the State. He said that the Organization has taken it as a responsibility to provide succor to the families of martyrs and various schemes have been introduced to offer a helping hand to these families.
Mr. Rajendra disclosed that during the year scholarship of more than Rs 15.5 lakh was given to 121 wards studying in different schools including Police Public Schools at Srinagar and Jammu. He said that the Organization is providing free education with hostel facilities to these children in Police Public Schools at twin capital cities. 13 daughters of martyrs were also provided financial assistance for their marriage, added Rajendra.
