JAMMU, Feb 7: The Estates department is going to launch massive eviction campaign against illegal occupants of Government quarters and some shops in Jammu and Srinagar Cities.
Official sources told the Excelsior that on the directions of Chief Secretary, B R Sharma and Financial Commissioner Estates Department BB Vyas, special teams headed by Assistant Directors and assisted by Estates officers were constituted which have started this massive exercise.
It was found that many quarters at Panjtirthi, Janipur, Subash Nagar, Tope Sherkhanian, Talab Tillo, Sarwal, Company Bagh, B C Road and other locations are illegally occupied by former political workers, their securitymen, retired employees, non-move employees and others. So far 215 such quarters have been identified in Jammu besides some shops. In some cases, shops and quarters were found sub-let by the allottees.
Deputy Director Estates Jammu, Satish Sharma when contacted disclosed that massive exercise has been commenced on the instructions of the Government. So far more than 200 such quarters/ shops have been identified. The notices are being served to the illegal occupants and the action under law is being taken against them. He said majority of them are political workers, former legislators, their relatives, security men, migrants etc.
Mr Sharma said that there are nearly 3200 quarters and 180 shops of Estates department in Jammu. Many people have executed unauthorised repair/ alteration work on the shops. The action is being taken against all such persons. He said such violations have also detected in Srinagar and similar exercise has been started there as well.
He disclosed that the department had this week reprimanded the different departments for failing to inform it regarding the transfer and retirement of its employees due to which it is facing difficulty in evicting the unauthorized occupants.
He disclosed that Financial Commissioner, Estates department, Mr Vyas has directed the departments to endorse a copy of the retirement notification and transfer orders as and when issued to the Estates department to bring about greater transparency and efficiency in its working.
“It is necessary that Estates department is kept informed of subsequent transfers and postings of the allottee employees so that required changes could be made in the allotted accommodation,” he added.
“The departments while issuing transfer orders and retirement notification, do not inform the Estates department. This creates unnecessary information gaps and delays in the process relating to eviction and allotment,” Mr Sharma maintained.
