JAMMU, Mar 7: Police have foiled a bovine smuggling attempt and rescued 21 animals during a late-night naka checking operation in the Kanachak area of Jammu district.
Officials said that during the intervening night of March 6 and 7, a special naka was laid by Police Station Kanachak at Sua No. 1. During checking, a truck bearing registration number JK13C-8175 was intercepted, they said.
On inspection, the police found 21 bovines loaded in the vehicle in violation of legal provisions, they said, adding that the animals were rescued and the vehicle was seized on the spot.
A case in this connection has been registered at Police Station Kanachak under FIR number 34/2026 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and further investigation has been set into the motion, officials said.
