JAMMU, Sept 5: About 200 students and parents attended the scholarship distribution programme of Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust.
SK Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu & Kashmir was the chief guest on the occasion. He interacted with students and parents. He told the students about the benefits of education and advised them to make full use of scholarship and support of the Trust.
He appreciated the role of women who often have to do multi-tasking, looking after the home as well as working. Mr Sharma praised the efforts of the Trust in helping the cause of education and also helping society at large to empower women.
HBET has the mission to change lives of needy children through literacy support programmes. They have been providing scholarships and conducting various other child welfare schemes for the past 20 years. Over 80 % children are girls from rural areas.
The children and parents came for the occasion from villages like Gajansoo, Hirachak, Qazi Tokarian, Jaswan, Parwah and Gurah Slathia.
Applications can be submitted to HBET by financially weak families for girls of Government schools from 1st to 3rd classes to be considered for scholarship.
