Srinagar, Nov 16: Police today arrested two truck drivers involved in a hit-and-run incident that killed a scooty rider in south Kashmir’s Qazigund.
Those arrested have been identified as Sonu Singh, son of Dharmindher Singh, a resident of Barnala, and Arshpreet Singh, son of Jagsir Singh, a resident of Ludhiana.
According to police, both were operating trucks bearing registration numbers PB10JA-1651 and PB06BD-7171.
They had allegedly fled from the spot after the accident, which occurred earlier in Qazigund.
Police said the incident that killed a man took place on the intervening night of Friday near the Walnut Factory in Qazigund.
The scooty rider, Mohd Iqbal Sheikh, a resident of Qewa Qazigund, police said, died on the spot.
“He was hit by two rashly driven trucks. In this connection, a case FIR No. 241/2025 under relevant sections was registered at Police Station Qazigund,” police said.
During the investigation, police said they conducted a meticulous analysis of CCTV footage. “Subsequently, they were traced and arrested by a special team of Police Station Qazigund.”
Police stressed that they will ensure road safety by taking strict action against violators endangering public lives.
“Further legal proceedings have been initiated in the case.”
