2 persons washed away in Chenab, bodies untraced

REASI, July 12: Two persons were washed away in river Chenab while their third associate managed to swim back to the bank at Barandari near main bridge on Reasi-Pouni road last evening.
A police spokesman said that incident took place at around 7.30 pm when three persons namely Abdul Wahid (32), son of Nissar Din, resident of Chabbal Walla, at present W.No. 2 Reasi, Mani Ram (60), son of Pukhu, resident  of Exchange Road Reasi and and Mohd Rafiq (42), son of Masum Ali, resident of Ward No. 2 Reasi had gone to the river side for picnic. They had also carried with them some eatables and hard and soft drinks. They were enjoying at the bank.
Then they started taking bath in the river. They were also said to be under the influence of  liquor. While two of them got washed away in the strong currents of river, the  third one namely- Mohd Rafiq managed to swim back to the bank. They could not help his associates to bring them back to the bank. Then he raised alarm and the people started gathering there. The police party also reached there within half an hour. They started search at both the bank after 8 pm but bodies could not be traced.
Their family members also reached after coming to know about the matter. The policemen and relatives again resumed search operation down stream in the morning. Akhnoor, Jourian and Khour Police was also informed about the matter. Despite day long search the bodies could not be traced. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
