2 out of 3 youths killed in Parimpora encounter were LeT overground workers: J&K Police

SRINAGAR: Two days after a fierce encounter with security forces led to the death of three youths in the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that 2 out of those 3 were working as “overground workers” for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist outfit.
The police said that the trio killed in Parimpora was “radically inclined” and the claims by the family of one of them – Aijaz Maqbool Ganai – that he had gone to the university to fill up a form was found to be a lie on investigation.
Their families claimed that the three youths had no links with militancy, and protested outside the police control room in Srinagar by saying that the deceased were a Class 11 student, a university student and a carpenter.
Many parts of Srinagar were shut down on Friday over the encounter on Wednesday, officials said.
A police spokesman said that the encounter broke out following intel from the Indian Army, the joint operation was conducted by the Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and J&K Police.
“After the cordon was laid, terrorists lobbed grenade from inside and fired upon the search party. Although as per SoP, terrorists were repeatedly appealed by the troops to surrender in the evening and again in the morning. However, instead of surrendering, they fired upon troops and eventually got neutralised in a fire-fight,” the police spokesman said. (Agency)
