2 LeT militants killed in Anantnag encounter

Srinagar, Oct 10 : Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in an overnight encounter in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

A police spokesman said that last evening, acting on specific information generated by police regarding the presence of militants in village Tangpawa area of Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 19 RR of Army and CRPF in the area.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” he said.
Two militants of LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Aasif Ahmad Reshi son of Mohammad Yaseen Reshi resident of Sheikhpora Marhama Bijbehara and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad Bhat resident of Naibasti Marhama.
As per police records, both the killed militants were categorized and involved in several militancy cases including attacks on police and security forces and civilians.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” police added.
A case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
