2 killed, nine hurt in Samba mishap

SAMBA, July 1: Two persons lost their lives while nine others were injured after a rashly driven canter rammed into three vehicles on Smailpur road, here today.
A canter (HR38AB-9223) driven by one Sanjay Kumar collided with two autos (JK21J-6743 and JK21A-6697) and a Venue car (JK21J-9486) at Kalagate area, resulting in injuries to 11 persons, a police official said.
He said, a rescue operation was quickly launched by police and locals, and the injured were shifted to Government Medical College Jammu, where two victims were declared brought dead. Nine others are undergoing treatment, he said.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Javed, son of Rehmat Ali of Shah Tallab, Bari Brahmana, Samba, and Mithu, son of Mo-Hasim of Chandpura, Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Barjani Tallab, Bari Brahmana, Samba.
The injured include two siblings, Ajay Kumar (29) and Arjun Kumar (28), both sons of Shatab Singh, Parshotam Singh (60) son of Punjab Singh, Sumit Kumar (24) son of Parkash Chand, Mithun (25), and Dharam Mandal (55) son of Bhibi Mandal, all residents of Smailpur, Jatinder Singh (53) son of Harbans Singh of Mishriwala, Jammu, Ravinder (18) son of Kishan of MP at present Smailpur, and Jabiyar (24) son of Birsa of Jharkhand at present Smailpur.
According to the police official, after the accident, the truck was chased by angry locals and stopped near Badhori.
After the driver of the vehicle was apprehended, he was assaulted by the mob, and later handed over to police, he said.
Meanwhile, a case under the relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Bari Brahmana and further investigation taken up.
