JAMMU, Aug 3: Two people lost their lives and three others sustained critical injuries when the SUV they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge on Kathua-Basohli road near Kainta Morh (Dakhnaka) under the jurisdictional area of Police Post (PP), Basantpur in the Kathua district early today, police said.

All five passengers were members of a community kitchen service for the Amarnath Yatra from Punjab. They were en route to the campsite at Chanderkote along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway when the accident occurred near Kainta Morh on the Kathua-Basohli road around 12.40 am, police stated.

It said XUV car bearing Registration No.PB10KB- 5888 skidded off the road and fell down in a Nallah during midnight and all the five persons travelling in the vehicle were seriously injured.
Following the vehicle’s plunge into the deep gorge, local volunteers and police promptly initiated a rescue operation. All five individuals were subsequently taken to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Kathua.
Mohinder Paul (60) and Pawan Madhan (50) were declared brought dead by the doctors upon their arrival at the hospital. The three injured – Anil Monga, Sunny Arora, and Sudhir – were admitted for treatment, The trio belonged to Ferozpur Punjab. They too have received serious injuries but their condition is stated to be stable, police said.
The police party of PP Basantpur rescued and shifted them to GMC Kathua where two of them have been declared as brought dead.
As per police all passengers were on their way to Chanderkot from Ferozpur when the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge. They were members of Amarnath langer party which had setup langer at Chanderkot. The police has registered a case under relevant sections of the law.
