JAMMU, Mar 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have recovered two kilograms of heroin worth approximately Rs 12 crores near the International Border (IB) in Bahadurpur Village of Bishnah Town here.
The recovery was made during a joint operation conducted by Police Station Bishnah and the 101 Battalion of the BSF following specific inputs about a suspicious object believed to have been dropped by a drone from Pakistan.
Officials said that acting on the information, the joint team launched a cordon and search operation in the area on March 11 evening.
During the searches, the team located a bag lying in agricultural fields on the outskirts of Bahadurpur village with a rope and hook attached to it, indicating that the consignment might have been dropped by a drone from across the border.
On opening the bag, officials said, several packets were found which, on preliminary examination, were suspected to contain heroin weighing around two kilograms.
They said the estimated value of the recovered narcotics is around Rs 12 crore in the international market.
Taking cognizance of the matter, police have registered a case under FIR No. 41/2026 under sections 8, 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Bishnah and initiated further investigation.
Investigators suspect that the consignment was smuggled from across the border through a drone and was intended for distribution in different parts of the region.
Meanwhile, a police team led by SHO Bishnah Inspector Rakesh Jamwal under the overall supervision of SP Headquarters IH Rather is working to identify the network involved and also examining both backward and forward linkages to trace the source and intended recipients of the narcotics.
