UDHAMPUR, July 31: Udhampur Police apprehended two hardcore narco smugglers and recovered 163.61 grams of heroin from their possession.
During routine naka checking at Chenani, Police intercepted a motorcycle (Platina) without registration number, which was coming from Jammu towards Ramban. During the search, 123.36 gms of heroin was recovered from the rider and 40.25 gms from the pillion rider who were subsequently arrested on the spot.
The rider was identified as Ashiq Hussain, son of Abdul Majeed, resident of Rajbagh, District Kathua, and the pillion rider as Abdul Latief son of Noor Mohammad, resident of Ragoora, Lower Sidhra, Jammu.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 73/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act (8/21/22/29) has been registered at Police Station Chenani and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, according to an official spokesperson, Udhampur Police registered 75 cases under the NDPS Act from January to July 2025 while a total of 110 drug peddlers were arrested, including 102 under NDPS and 08 under PIT NDPS/PSA.
31 vehicles used in narcotic smuggling were also seized, and 07 pharmacy shops were sealed for violating H1 drug norms. Financial action led to the freezing of 52 bank accounts linked to drug traffickers, involving Rs 17,36,812 and narcotics worth Rs 4.45 crore were seized, including heroin, cannabis, poppy straw, and marijuana.
Further strengthening enforcement, property worth Rs 4.69 crore was attached under NDPS provisions. These include trucks, cars, bikes, flats, houses, and land. Additionally, 2 kanal 10 marla of illicit opium cultivation was destroyed in Panchari.
