SRINAGAR, May 18: Police in Anantnag today arrested two drug peddlers and recovered over a kilogram of charas from their possession, along with Rs 2.48 lakh in cash.
Authorities stated that a police party from Police Station Bijbehara, at a checkpoint established at Zirpara, intercepted a Hyundai Creta, bearing registration number JK02CX-6665, with two persons on board.
“During search of the vehicle, approximately 1.2Kgs of Charas Powder like substance and a cash amount of Rs 2.48 lakh were recovered,” police said.
The accused have been identified as Sabzar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Yousuf Dar, and Adnan Nazir Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar – both residents of Waghama Bijbehara, according to police.
“They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”
Police said that a case under FIR No. 102/2025, under relevant sections of law, has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and further investigation is underway to uncover the broader nexus and linkages involved in the case.
In the meantime, Police today attached immovable property worth Rs 40 lakh belonging to a “known” drug peddler in the Nadigam area of district Budgam.
The peddler has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Kareem, a resident of Nadigam Narbal, Budgam.
“The single-storey residential structure built on land measuring 1 kanal and 11 marlas; the estimated market value of the property is approximately Rs. 40 lakhs,” police said.
The action, police said, was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with FIR No. 464/2024, registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Budgam.
“The case pertains to the recovery of a substantial quantity of contraband (Charas) from the possession of the accused.”
