RAJOURI, June 24: Two women were killed while several others injured, when two vehicles collided near Chingus on Jammu-Rajouri highway today morning.

Official sources said that an accident took place around 05:30 AM on Tuesday at Chityari in Chingus area of District Rajouri. A Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number JK02CG-7011, which was on its way from Jammu to Rajouri, collided with a Tempo Traveller bearing registration number JK02AW-9030, coming from Rajouri side. The accident occurred on the busy highway, resulting in the death of two passengers and leaving over nine others seriously injured.
Among the deceased were Insha Fatima, 26, daughter of Akhter Ali, resident of Khothra, and Farzand Begum, 50, wife of Mohd Iqbal, resident of Fatehpur, Rajouri. Both lost their lives on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
Three critically injured persons -Mohd Fareed, 19, son of Mohd Yaqub, resident of Dhanwankote; Mohd Iqbal, 60, son of Faqardin, resident of Fatehpur; and Rafia Iqbal, 28, daughter of Mohd Iqbal, also from Fatehpur-were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for advanced treatment.
Four others are currently undergoing treatment at GMC Rajouri. These include Mohd Hanif, 50, son of Faqir Mohd, resident of Tatarmal; Sadia Parveen, 25, daughter of Akhter Hussain, resident of Kheora Rajouri; Mohd Khalid, 30, son of Lal Hussain, resident of Bhattian; and Anil Kumar, 38, son of Gani Sham, resident of Mubarakpura. All are being provided with the necessary medical care.
Station House Officer (SHO) Rajouri, Inspector Abid Hussain Shah, along with his team, promptly reached the accident site, facilitated the evacuation of the injured to GMC Rajouri, and initiated legal proceedings. An FIR has been registered vide No. 327 in connection with the incident. Police have also arrested the two drivers involved-Yaseen Ali, son of Abdul Hussain, resident of Panjgrain, and Ajay Kumar, son of Bishan Das, resident of Songal Chakraja-for further investigation. They too have sustained injuries.
Dr Shamim Ahmed, Medical Superintendent at Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri, confirmed that two people had died, three were referred to GMC Jammu in critical condition, and four were being treated at GMC Rajouri.
