2-day camp for Pediatric Thalassemia patients held in SMGS Hospital

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Apr 29: Department of Pediatrics, GMC Jammu in collaboration with J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society (JKTWS) organized 2-day camp for Pediatric Thalassemia patients in SMGS Hospital, Jammu. Hematologists and Thalassemia expert of National & International repute Dr V P Choudhary (Director, Hematology Division, Paras Hospital, Gurgaon), Dr J S Arora (general secretary, National Thalassemia Society) along with Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra (Professor & HoD Department of Pediatrics, GMC Jammu) and Dr Sanjana Sharma (I/c Consultant, Thalassemia Day Care Centre, SMGS Hospital, Jammu) conducted the camp. Around 100 Thalassemia patients were examined in the camp. Besides the examination of the patients, the parents and families of the individuals with Thalassemia were made aware to ensure maintaining the Hb levels of the patient above 10gm% with regular blood transfusions. The patients were advised to take regular medicine to remove excess iron from their body. They were informed that with timely and adequate treatment, the individuals with Thalassemia can lead a healthy and productive life. The camp was smoothly conducted with the support of members of J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society: president Sudhir Sethi; medical advisor Dr K Koul, former Professor & HoD, Department of Pathology, GMC Jammu; vice president V P Sharma; general secretary Rajinder Pathak and treasurer Puneet Gandotra.
