UDHAMPUR, Aug 7: Two CRPF personnel were killed and 16 others sustained injuries when the vehicle, they were travelling in, plunged into a deep gorge in Basantgarh area, here this morning.

According to police, the CRPF vehicle was on its way to a location in the hilly terrain when it skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge, leading to casualties.
“Rescue operations were immediately launched, and all the injured were evacuated from the accident site and Army helicopters were pressed to airlift all injured to Army Hospital Udhampur,” Police said. Click here to watch video
The deceased were identified as Anand Koach (27) of 137 Battalion, resident of Meghalaya and Arvind, (36) of 187 Battalion, resident of Bihar. They had reportedly died on the spot.
The injured persons are undergoing treatment in Army Hospital Udhampur and they have been identified as Karle Gajanand (45) of 187 Battalion, Sunil Xalxo (32 of 137 Battalion, resident of Jharkhand; Aneesh Kumar (30) of 137 Battalion, resident of Kerala; Milan Kumar (30) of 137 Battalion, resident of Jharkhand; Mohd Mushtaq (32) of 137 Battalion, resident of Rajouri; Gopa Ram (31) of 187 Battalion, resident of Rajasthan; Udharaj (A.S.I) (50) of 137 Battalion, resident of UP; Jitendra Pradhan (28) of 37 Battalion, resident of Jharkhand; S Sudalai Mani (38) of 137 Battalion, resident of Tamil Nadu; Zala Vijay Kumar (29) of 187 Battalion, resident of Gujarat; Sonu Kumar (29) of 137, resident of Jharkhand; Mukesh Kumar (31) of 187 Battalion, resident of Bihar; J Hebram (50) of 187 Battalion, resident of Odisha; Rakesh Kumar (39) of 187 Battalion, resident of R S Pura; Dhanraj Pahad (46) of 187 Battalion, resident of Maharashtra and Sukhwinder Singh (27) of 137 Battalion, resident of Delhi.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed his deep grief over the loss of lives of CRPF personnel due to the tragic accident. In a post on X, he has said: “Saddened by loss of CRPF personnel due to an accident near Udhampur. We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My thoughts are with bereaved families. Praying for speedy recovery of injured. Directed senior officials to ensure best possible care and assistance”.
Soon after coming to know about the tragic accident, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh spoke to DC Udhampur, Saloni Rai, who was personally monitoring the situation. “Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help being ensured,” he posted on X.
