SRINAGAR, Dec 9: Police today arrested two drug peddlers near the Government Medical College Baramulla parking area and recovered heroin worth around Rs. 1 crore from their possession.

A police spokesperson said Baramulla Police carried out a targeted operation near the GMC Baramulla parking area at around 7 pm yesterday.
“During the operation, the team intercepted two suspects identified as Sobiya Bano (29), daughter of Late Mohammad Sadiq Khan, and Tahir Ahmad Khan (26), son of Amar Zaman Khan, both residents of Trikanjan, Boniyar.”
During their personal search, the spokesperson said, police recovered 964 grams of a heroin-like substance, packed in two packets of 424 grams and 540 grams, the spokesperson said. “The recovered contraband is valued at approximately Rs. 1 crore in the illegal market. Police also seized two mobile phones and a Tata Punch vehicle (Registration No. JK05L-7844) from their possession,” he said.
Meanwhile, a case FIR No. 214/2025 U/S 21 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Baramulla, and further investigation is underway, the spokesperson added.
In a separate incident in Kupwara, Police Station Lalpora today conducted a surprise naka checking at Kuligam Chowk, during which personnel intercepted an individual and recovered 2.018 kg of charas-like substance from his possession. The accused was identified as Mohd. Aslam Konshi, son of Haider Ali Konshi, a resident of Kuligam Naad. A case has been registered, and an investigation is in progress.
