LEH, Apr 29: In a groundbreaking development for Ladakh’s healthcare sector, SNM Hospital Leh has successfully performed its first-ever permanent pacemaker implantation — a landmark achievement that significantly enhances cardiac care access in the region.
The complex and life-saving procedure was led by Dr Lotus Gyalson, Cardiologist at SNM Hospital, with expert support from a dedicated team comprising Ibrahim, Senior Pharmacist, who ensured seamless operation theatre logistics, and Ashish from SJM, who provided crucial technical assistance.
The recipient of this advanced intervention was a 76-year-old resident of Leh, treated under the Ayushman Bharat PMJAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) scheme. This ensured that cutting-edge cardiac treatment remained both accessible and affordable.
Permanent pacemakers help regulate abnormal heart rhythms, significantly improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Conducting the procedure in Leh spares patients from high-altitude travel to metropolitan hospitals, reducing risk and discomfort. This milestone underscores SNM Hospital’s growing capabilities and commitment to strengthening specialized medical services in the region.
This successful implantation not only sets a new benchmark for SNM Hospital but also serves as a beacon of hope for residents across Ladakh seeking advanced healthcare locally.
