1st Intathecal drug delivery system implanted in cancer patient in J&K

JAMMU, Feb 24: In a first in Jammu and Kashmir, Intathecal Infusion Pump was implanted by Dr Rohit Lahori (Incharge, Pain and Palliative care) posted at Government Hospital Gandhinagar, in a female patient suffering from Carcinoma Cervix with metastasis to spine.
The procedure was done under the guidance of DHS Jammu Dr Rakesh Mangotra and supervision of Medical Superintendent of Gandhi Nagar Hospital Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar.
The patient suffering from cancer with dissemination was having intense pain. She was on high dose of Opioids for pain management and was showing high dose intolerance. The patient was totally bedridden due to pain.
The procedure was done free of cost under Ayushman Bharat by a team comprising Dr Rohit Lahori, Dr Sabri (DNB student), Jaswinder Singh and Rakesh Bakshi (Chief OT Technician), giving a new ray of hope to such patients suffering from pain due to cancer.
Post procedure, the patient is pain-free and relieved.
