18 more schools renamed in J&K

JAMMU, July 28: Government of Jammu and Kashmir today ordered renaming of 18 more schools in the Union Territory after martyrs and eminent personalities.
According to the order, Government High Secondary School Soaf Shali, Anantnag has been renamed as Late Sarwanand Kaul Premi. A well known Kashmiri Pandit poet, Premi was killed by militants in 1990 along with his son.
Government Middle School Dab in Ganderbal has been renamed as Para Trooper Shabir Ahmad Malik. Army’s specialist paratrooper commando, Malik, died in 2009 along with three other commandos including Major Mohit Sharma fighting with infiltrators in the treacherous terrains of Shamsbari range near Line of Control in north Kashmir.
Similarly, Government Boys Middle School, Wanpora, Gurez has been renamed after Martyr Reyaz Ahmad Lone, GMC Chandanwari after Martyr Rifleman Mohammad Safeer Khan, BMS Kupwara after Martyr Rfn Abdul Hameed Chara, UPA Kundlayan after Martyr HC(Head Constable) Abdul Rashid Kalas, GMC Banday Mohalla, Handwara after Martyr Sgct Ghulam Mustafa Barah and UPS Kashmiri Manigah after Martyr HC Sheraz Ahamd.
Government Middle School (Boys) Garhi has been renamed after Martyr Const Rajinder Kumar, Government Boys Middle School, Jaganoo after Martyr Cosnt Raj Kumar, Government Girls Middle School, Mthlal, Alambass after Martyr Ct Naseeb Singh, Government Middle School Bagga ( Jamslan) after Martyr SPO Jalal Din, MS Butt Pura Dool after Martyr Ct Shamin Ahmad, MS Sounder after Martyr HC Raghu Nath, Middle School, Chatyari, Panchayat Loorkote after Martyr Sep Joginder Singh, PS Patti after Martyr Havaldar Sartool Singh, Government Girls Middle School Kheri after Martyr Ct Raj Kumar and Government Primary School, Dab Ditta after Martyr Ct Jagdev Singh.
The order said the School Education Department shall take immediate necessary steps including amending records for effecting changes while Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir/ Jammu shall personally monitor the naming of infrastructure assets in respective divisions.
The Government has also asked Deputy Commissioners to ensure that suitable events are held in connection with the naming of these infrastructure assets.
Pertinent to mention that after abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, there has been focus on honouring the security men and eminent personalities killed in the three decade violence.
In September last year, the Government has constituted a seven-member committee to make suggestions on renaming Government schools, colleges and roads after martyrs and eminent personalities. A month later, the Government had issued an order for the renaming of at least 76 schools and other buildings.
