UDHAMPUR, Feb 2: Udhampur Police foiled a bovine smuggling attempt during naka checking at Tikri under the jurisdiction of Police Station Rehambal and rescued 18 bovine animals besides arresting two smugglers.
Police party of PP Tikri intercepted a truck bearing Registration number JK05L-6240 coming from Jammu towards Udhampur for routine checking. During inspection, 18 bovine animals were found loaded in the vehicle in a cruel manner and tied with ropes.
During questioning, the driver disclosed his identity as Ashraf, son of Bashir Ahmed of Rajbagh Fore Lane, Kathua and the co-driver as Mohd Sharief, son of Mansa of Gehalote, Tehsil Panchari, District Udhampur. Both failed to produce any valid permission for transporting the bovine animals.
Police arrested both the smuggler and seized the truck besides rescuing all the bovine animals. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 22/2026 under Sections 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Rehambal and further investigation is underway.
