JAMMU, Feb: 16: On the directions of ADGP Traffic, J&K T Namgyal, a special drive was conducted in all four Sub Divisions of National Highway i.e. Udhampur, Ramban, Banihal and Doda/Kishtwar each headed by a DySP to strictly act against the traffic violators under the provisions of MV Act with the aim to reduce the rate of vehicular accidents besides educating the people about the road discipline and safe driving.
Special emphasis was laid on offences like overloading in public transport,trucks, other load carriers and drunken driving besides other visible offences.
A total of 1745 vehicles were challaned in this three day drive,out of which 260 were given court challans. Rs 10.42 lakhs of fine was realised from traffic violators as compound money for various traffic rule violations. Fifty four vehicles were also seized for moving in contravention of rules of Motor Vehicle Act.
During the drive, people were requested to follow the traffic rules for their safety and co-operate with traffic cops on duty.
The drive was led by SSP Traffic National Highway Shabir Malik.
