17 vehicles seized for illegal mining

SRINAGAR, Dec 29: In a crackdown on the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, police today seized 17 vehicles and three JCB machines in separate operations across Baramulla and Ganderbal districts, officials said.
In Baramulla, a joint raid conducted by Police Post, Old Town in coordination with the Geology and Mining Department led to the seizure of three JCB machines involved in the illegal extraction of stones.
The seized machines bear chassis numbers 1384197A2010, HAR3DXXTA01488983 and HAR3DXSSC01846152.
In addition, a dumper bearing registration number JK05J7048, found transporting illegally extracted sand, was also seized.
Officials said all seizures were made after due verification, and legal action under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act) has been initiated against the violators.
Meanwhile, in Ganderbal district, police teams seized 16 vehicles, including 12 tippers and four tractors, involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals within the jurisdictions of Police Station Ganderbal, Police Station Kheer Bawani, Police Station Lar and Police Post Nagbal.
The vehicles were found transporting illegally extracted material from Nallah Sindh without mandatory permissions, officials said.
Acting swiftly in close coordination with the Geology and Mining Department, teams seized the vehicles on the spot.
