REASI, July 15: General Zorawar Singh Memorial Committee organised a function to observe the 163rd birth anniversary of Maharaja Pratap Singh at Court complex, here.
On the occasion, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Dr Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary was the chief guest, who felicitated internationally acclaimed theatre and cultural personality Balwant Thakur for bringing pride to the people of the district by achieving highest civilian honour of the country ‘Padamshree’.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that such commemorative functions are the opportune moments to educate the younger generations about the great past and the glorious history of the place.
He assured to involve larger public in future particularly the children to commemorate such rarest occasions by recognizing meritorious public services and disseminating information about such great personalities.
While speaking, Balwant Thakur said that all out efforts are required to preserve the fast fading and decaying cultural identities.
Among others, who spoke were Tariq Bhatt, social activist, Narayan Singh Jamwal, president Amar Kshtriya Rajput Sabha, Baldev Singh, president Zorawar Singh Committee, Ajay Nanda, senior Advocate and Daljeet Singh secretary of Zorawar Singh Committee.
The prominent personalities who graced the occasion included KP Singh of Akhnoor, Poet Bishan Singh ‘Dardi’, Shamsher Singh, Sudershan Singh, ID Thakur, Raj Kumar, Mohinder Singh, Kapoor Singh and Bansi Lal Sarpanchs, Malooq Singh, Sohan Lal, etc.
