15 erring traders fined by LMD

JAMMU, Apr 15: The Department of Legal Metrology (LMD) today imposed a fine of Rs 22600 on various traders of Akhnoor, Talab Tillo, Paloura and other areas of city outskirts, for violation of rules.
A team of Legal Metrology comprising Inspector M Khatee and Inspector Rohit Gupta, under the supervision of Deputy Controller, Enforcement , VS Sambyal, today conducted checking of traders dealing with commodities of daily use in the areas of Akhnoor, Talab Tillo, Paloura, Durga Nagar, Janipur, Gumat and Subhash Nagar.
During checking, the team booked 15 traders for violating the provision of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act, 1997 and rules made there under. A penalty of Rs 22600 had been recovered on spot from the defaulting traders as composition.
Meanwhile, in a surprise inspection conducted in the premises of Best Price Paloura, the team detected the Best Price management’s involvement in illegal profiteering of Gram Dal packages of 1 Kg and issued notice to it.
