POONCH, Nov 19: In a major crackdown on unregulated health facilities, the Medical Department sealed 15 unauthorized private clinical laboratories and health care facilities operating in Surankote and Mendhar.
The action was taken as per the directions of the Divisional Pollution Control Committee, District Poonch, and duly endorsed by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Poonch, Dr Parvaiz Khan. A joint team comprising officials from the Medical Department, Revenue Department, and Police, in the presence of Ist Class Magistrate, carried out the sealing drive.
The move follows a detailed inspection conducted by the Divisional Officer of the Pollution Control Committee. The inspection report revealed that several clinical laboratories and health facilities were operating without mandatory authorization from the J&K Pollution Control Committee and were violating the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Acting on these violations, the Medical Department seized 15 laboratories across Surankote and Mendhar.
CMO Poonch, Dr Parvaiz Khan, stated that the department is firmly committed to protecting public health and ensuring regulatory compliance across all healthcare establishments in the region. “We have seized these 15 laboratories for not meeting the required standards, and more such facilities will be sealed in future if they failed to adhere to the guidelines,” he added.
