SAMBA, June 22: Police in Samba’s Ghagwal area claimed they have foiled a bovine smuggling bid by rescuing 15 animals from the clutches of the smugglers. A vehicle used in the transportation of the animals has also been seized.
During vehicle checking at NHW naka Tapyal, a police team headed by SHO Ghagwal intercepted a truck (PB11BF-6445) coming from Kathua side, but its driver accelerated the speed in a bid to escape, a police official said.
After a brief chase, he said the vehicle was found abandoned at a distance.
“When it was put to search, the police team found 15 animals crammed inside it in a cruel manner,” the police official said, adding that the animals were accordingly released and provided shelter and fodder.
He said the animals were being transported without any valid permission.
According to the police official, a case FIR number 65/2025 under section 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered in connection with the illegal transportation of the animals at Police Station Ghagwal and further investigation has been taken up.
