Srinagar, Mar 29: After successfully completing 11 month strenuous training, a batch comprising of 143 Kashmiri youth donned the olive uniform here at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment Centre in Rangreth on city outskirts.
A Defence spokesman said recruit course serial number 104 culminated with the passing-out-parade, which was reviewed by Major General BK Jain. “Also in attendance were over 2500 parents and relatives of the young soldiers from the State of J&K along with a number of civil and military dignitaries,” he said.
The spokesman said the dauntless soldiers of the Regiment hailing from all regions and religions of the State of J&K took oath in unison to serve the supreme cause of the Nation. “Their Ceremonial ardour and salute to the tri-colour with National Anthem playing inspired patriotic fervour in all present,” he said.
Major General BK Jain congratulated the young soldiers for their immaculate parade and impressed upon selfless service towards the Nation. “He praised their contribution towards encouraging more and more youth from J&K to come forward to join the security forces and also highlighted the vital role played by their parents in motivating their wards to join this noble profession,” said the spokesman.
During the investiture ceremony, Major General Jain also presented awards to the meritorious recruits who excelled in various facets of training. “Recruit Shabir Ahmed of Reasi received the Chewang Rinchen Medal for being adjudged ‘Best in Firing’ and Recruit Iftikar Beigh of Jammu bagged the Bana Singh Medal for being best in drill,” he said.
“The proceedings ended with the parents and relatives pipping the soldiers making them ready to join their battalions and to tread the immortal path of glory, living up to the expectations and the best traditions of the Army. In recognition of the contribution by the parents, they were felicitated with the ‘Gaurav Padaks’ instituted by the Army,” the Defence spokesman added.
