Srinagar, Mar 6: At least 14 patients, having tested positive of H1N1 virus, are currently undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, with doctors saying that the month of March is going to mark an ‘end’ to the virus activity.
Three fresh cases of the H1N1 virus have been admitted to the hospital since the inception of March till now. All the patients are said to be stable and are undergoing treatment.
“As of now, there are 14 patients admitted at the hospital after they were tested positive for H1N1 and in March till date we have admitted three new cases,” In-charge Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, Dr Ghulam Hassan Yatoo told Excelsior.
All the patients have been put in the isolation ward established at the hospital where their condition is being regularly monitored.
He said that the condition of all these patients is stable and they are being regularly monitored by the special team of doctors and paramedics of the hospital.
Earlier, there were two patients reported to be critical and one of them had died last week while another has recovered.
On the activity of the virus, a doctor working at SKIMS said that with the onset of March and the increase in temperatures, changes are expected from the activity of the virus.
“The virus, which is active as of now, is expected to go back into the state of dormancy. March is the peak of the virus activity in Kashmir. As the temperatures go up the virus effects are expected to fade off,” he said, adding that this year the virus activity in Kashmir was considerably low in comparison to the last season.
With regard to deaths caused due to H1N1, the doctor further said that the patients with comorbidities are more vulnerable to the virus and those who are healthy have good chances of recovery.
“If you see, the deaths that have been reported, those patients were having some kind of comorbidity, and those who were healthy and had caught the infection, recovered, and were sent home,” a doctor said.
