JAMMU, Dec 14: Police in Sidhra area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nagrota foiled a bovine smuggling bid by rescuing 14 animals from the clutches of the smugglers.
A vehicle used by the smugglers to transport the animals has also been seized.
During routine checking, a truck (JK03-3738) coming from Narwal side towards Udhampur was signalled to stop at Tawi Bridge naka in Sidhra area, said a police official.
On seeing the police party, he said that the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot, taking advantage of the dark.
During search of his abandoned vehicle, 14 animals crammed inside the truck in a cruel manner were rescued, he said.
The accused has been accordingly booked in case FIR number 3233/2024 under section 223 of the BNS and 11 PC Act registered at Police Station Nagrota and further investigation taken up, he added.
