28Srinagar, Apr 27: The Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) today said that over 30 Critical Care and 108 ambulances went beyond the motorable zone to provide medical help to the injured in the Pahalgam terror attack.
Detailing the help and measures taken as well as multi-stage medical response from the Health & Medical Education Department-soon after receiving information about the attack-DHSK said ambulances already stationed at Civil Hospital Pahalgam were immediately deployed with medical staff and emergency medical supplies to Baisaran.
“Under instructions from the Secretary Health & Medical Education Department additional medical staff from nearby hospitals, including SDH Seer, PHC Sallar and SDH Bijbehara and adjacent districts,” DHSK said.
The staff, it said, included surgeons, anaesthetists, orthopaedicians, and physicians along with paramedics, who promptly reached Civil Hospital Pahalgam for additional assistance.
“More than 30 Critical Care Ambulances belonging to the Directorate and 108 Ambulance systems managed to reach areas of the uphill pony track of Baisaran even beyond the motorable zone.”
It was further stated that health and rescue teams also utilized all-terrain bikes to navigate the challenging terrain for rescue, stabilization, and shifting of injured persons.
“A total of 16 patients were rescued, stabilized and shifted to the Civil Hospital Pahalgam for further treatment. Eleven of the injured patients were admitted and treated at Civil Hospital Pahalgam,” DHSK stated.
Further, it stated, four patients were referred to GMC Anantnag where two were stabilised and discharged, one patient underwent stenting in the Cath Lab “and one patient was operated upon and subsequently shifted by State NHM by air ambulance to AIIMS New Delhi.”
One patient was airlifted by helicopter from Pahalgam to 92 Base Hospital Srinagar, where he was operated upon and his condition is now stable, the health authority informed.
“Contrary to fake reports, none of the sixteen injured patients who were brought to the civil hospital Pahalgam succumbed to their injuries,” DHSK clarified.
