RAMBAN, Mar 27: The district administration in Ramban launched a major crackdown on the illegal transportation and black marketing of LPG cylinders, seizing a total of 124 cylinders at different checkpoints across the district.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, with police teams carrying out routine naka checking at key locations.
During checking near the Navyouga Tunnel, an auto load carrier (JK03Q-7873) travelling from Nowgam towards Kashmir was intercepted. On inspection, 24 LPG cylinders were found loaded in the vehicle. The driver and two co-drivers failed to produce valid documents or give a satisfactory explanation for the consignment.
In another incident at the Jawahar Tunnel, a TATA 407 (JK02DD-0915) coming from the Kashmir side was stopped, leading to the recovery of 100 LPG cylinders. The driver was also unable to furnish any documentation or justification for transporting the cylinders.
Police officials stated that both cases involve violations under the Essential Commodities Act. In both cases, separate FIRs have been registered at concerned police stations. Further investigation is underway.
