JAMMU, Feb 13: The Government today informed the Legislative Assembly that 11 doctors have been nominated for MD courses, while 6 nursing orderlies were deputed for training during the last two years in Jammu and Kashmir.
Replying to a starred question tabled by BJP MLA Rajiv Jasrotia, the Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo said that in 2024, 2 Medical Officers from Ayush were nominated for MD (Ayurveda) and 6 Nursing Orderlies were sent for Ayush Pharmacist Course.
In 2025, 9 Medical Officers, including 6 in Ayurveda and 3 in Homeopathy, were nominated for MD courses sans nomination of any Nursing Orderly, she said.
Itoo said that the nomination for MD-ISM course for the year 2025 has been issued; however formal approval of study leave/permission is awaited.
She further said that nominations for MD courses have been made under the Central Government quota earmarked for in-service doctors, adding that the Ayush Pharmacist nominations were made through notifications issued by the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) to ensure a transparent and merit-based selection process.
However, formal approval of study leave in respect of 11 MD candidates for 2025 is awaited.
Regarding Primary Health Centre (PHC) Barwal in Jasrota constituency of Kathua district, the Minister said the project was initially sanctioned at a cost of Rs 187.82 lakh under NABARD funding and later shifted to the UT Capex Budget for smooth execution. So far, Rs 119.09 lakh has been utilized, she said.
For the financial year 2025-26, an outlay of Rs 35 lakh has been approved, out of which Rs 29.75 lakh has already been released, she said.
“The construction work is progressing satisfactorily, with the first-floor slab completed and finishing work on the ground floor underway. Around 75 percent physical progress has been achieved,” the Minister added.
According to her, the project is being closely monitored and, once completed, will strengthen primary healthcare services in the area and improve access to quality treatment for the local population.
