11 absconders arrested in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Oct 16: Police today arrested eleven absconders in separate operations in Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, and Ganderbal in central Kashmir, including individuals wanted in cases dating back to 1990 and 1999.
A police spokesperson said a team from the Police Post Bus Stand in Sopore arrested Hilal Ahmad Siraj, son of Abdul Rasheed Siraj, and Abdul Rasheed Siraj, son of Juma Siraj, both residents of Sidiq Colony.
“The duo was wanted in Case FIR No. 311/1999 under Sections 376 and 109 of the Ranbir Penal Code of Police Station Sopore and had been evading arrest since 2011. Separately, Nazir Ahmad Beigh, son of Gull Beigh, resident of Botingoo Sopore, wanted in Case FIR No. 120/2013 under Sections 379 RPC and 6 of the Forest Act of Police Station Sopore, was apprehended after evading arrest since 2018,” the spokesperson said.
In Ganderbal, eight absconders were traced and arrested following persistent efforts and technical surveillance, the spokesperson added. The arrested include Alam Din Khatana, son of Allah-u-Din Khatana, resident of Anderwan Lar, involved in FIR No. 187/1995 under Sections 7 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act; Nazir Ahmad Takad and Mohammad Lateef Takad, sons of Hashim Din Takad and Mohammad Hashim Din Takad, respectively, residents of Wangath Kangan; along with Mohammad Shareef Khatana, Mohammad Yaqoob Takad, Mohammad Amin Takad, Mohammad Qasim Khatana, and Showket Ahmad Bhat, all wanted in cases registered between 1990 and 2015 under Sections 451, 366, and 379 RPC. “All the absconders were produced before the respective courts for further legal proceedings. The two accused in the 1999 Sopore case were remanded to District Jail Baramulla, while the third accused was lodged in Sub-Jail Sopore. The Ganderbal absconders were produced before the Hon’ble Court of JMIC Ganderbal,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the arrests demonstrate the firm commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to bringing offenders to justice, irrespective of the passage of time. “J&K Police remains committed to upholding the rule of law, ensuring accountability, and delivering justice, proving once again that justice may be delayed, but it will never be denied,” he said.
