According to an official order issued by Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Leh, Romil Singh, the land has been escheated to the State after the institute failed to use it for the intended purpose.
“The land, originally allotted in May 2018 for setting up a University, remained unused for over seven years,” the order said.
It cited several violations, including the failure to establish a University, the absence of a formal lease deed, and non-compliance even after the allotment lapsed on May 5, 2019.
The order directed the LAHDC and Tehsildar Leh to remove all encumbrances and update revenue records immediately.
The cancellation comes as a setback for the Himalayan Institute, which had attracted attention for promoting alternative education models in Ladakh.
