SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Bali Bhagat today said that more than 10000 kanals of forest land have been retrieved from encroachers after the present government took over in March this year.
The Minister was replying to the discussion on a resolution moved by Saif-ud-Din Bhat on preservation of natural resources of the state.
The legislator had demanded constitution of a committee of experts to assess the threats to the state’s natural resources.
The member later withdrew the resolution after assurance from the Government that steps would be taken to safeguard the State’s natural resources.
Meanwhile, Bali Bhagat said that procurement in ICDS Department is completely decentralized and is done by District level Purchase Committee (DLPC) headed by Deputy Commissioner. The Minister further said that tenders for procurement of nutrition items are floated by the DLPC as per norms through e-tendering mode.
The Minister said this while replying to a question by Surinder Kumar Choudhary in the Legislative Council today. The Minister said that Social Welfare Department routinely conducts inspection for monitoring the quality of nutrition items besides surprise inspections are also conducted.
The Minister said that recently two such inspections at the highest level in the department were conducted at Zaldagar, Srinagar and Roop Nagar Jammu. The Minister further said that certain items after analysis by Food Safety Labs were reported to be not in conformity with the food standards. He said administrative action in this regard has also been taken and no such item was transferred to Anganwadi Centres.
