10,000 appeal letters of DEO distributed to voters in Poonch

POONCH, Nov 30: To achieve the objective of increasing voter awareness and maximum voter turnout, a massive Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) signature campaign was organized, under the guidance of District Election Officer, M H Malik, in which more than twenty thousand persons comprising of commuters, drivers, conductors, lawyers, officials from the district court complex, Government Degree Colleges and District Hospital, besides employees of several departments and students from different educational institutions put their signatures for participation in December 2 polling.
The district election authorities have also distributed District Election Officer’s appeal letters to 10 thousand people in various parts of the district. The DEO, through this medium, has appealed to the voters to exercise their right to vote.
Meanwhile, SVEEP rallies and programmes were organized by SVEEP team headed by Nodal Officer, Dr. Zakir Hussain at Govt. Degree College and Muqaddas College in Mendhar and HSS Sawjian where students from HS Gagrian, HS Chamber ,besides local residents also participated. Students, officials and prominent citizens were also administered Pledge to cast vote on the poll day.
To motivate the electorate and to ensure maximum participation on December 2, the district SVEEP team has been organizing motor rallies, pledges, signature campaigns, mushairas, cultural programmes, debates, seminars and symposia.
Addressing various gatherings all over the district, the District Election Officer, who has also been constantly monitoring SVEEP activities in the district, appealed to people especially students to act as ambassadors for spreading awareness among the common masses for greater participation to ensure a stronger democratic system. Under comprehensive district SVEEP programme, the main objective has been to bridge the gender gap in turnout, increase voter turnout in low turnout polling stations besides ensuring informed, ethical and inducement free voting.
